| With your own vehicle you have complete freedom to travel as you please. Distances are given in kilometres, but New Zealand, like the UK, drives on the left side of the road. |
We offer a full range of vehicles from Budget Rent A Car, Thrifty Car Rental and United Campervans. A normal saloon or hatchback is sufficient for all of New Zealand’s main roads, but off the beaten track you may encounter unsealed roads, for which four wheel drive is helpful. Motorhomes may only be driven on sealed and other well-maintained roads. Please ask our staff for advice on your intended route.
There is no need to take your car on the ferry over the Cook Strait. You simply leave it at the ferry depot, check your baggage in and pick up another vehicle on arrival. However, for motorhome hire, you will need to take your vehicle on the ferry. Pre-booking is highly recommended during peak times. |

| All vehicles come with the following facilities as standard: fridge/freezer; gas stove; sink; hot and cold pressurised water; cooking utensils; crockery and cutlery; radio/cassette or radio/CD & power steering. Shower and toilet facilities are also standard except in the Spirit 2. |

| United Campervans |
| Sleeping 2-6 persons. Shower and toilet are standard on nearly all models, as are fridge/freezer, gas stove, sink, hot and cold pressurised water, gas heating, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Minimum rental period 4-7 days, depending on the vehicle. |
