Milford Wilderness

Outline Itinerary [2/2]
Day 6: Exploring Queenstown
There are several options available today - superb cycling, jetboating and kayaking, to walking. Or perhaps just an optional day to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Day 7: Queenstown-Te Anau
From Queenstown take a leisurely cycle and drive to Lake Te Anau and your Lodge accommodation. Visit the beautiful hidden Moke Lake. For the rest of the day walk the lakeside sections of the Kepler Track through the beech forests.
Day 8: Te Anau-Milford Sound
Departing Te Anau drive into the Fiordland National Park amid the beech forests and mountains that the region is famous for. Cycle, coach and then walk the beautiful sealed road tracks through the wilderness and onto the Routeburn Track to experience spectacular views surrounded by mountains. Coach through the Milford Tunnel and then enjoy the sheer delight of a 17km cycle descent down into Milford Sound and the accommodation for the night on the SS Milford Mariner. The boat sails out of the Sound to the open seas beyond before returning to a sheltered spot for the night.
Day 9: Milford Sound-Te Anau
An early morning kayak on the sound is followed by breakfast and the return to shore. Then travel back through the Homer Tunnel and walk the Gertrude Valley or cycle along the Hollyford Valley. The slow return to Te Anau is a perfect way to appreciate the nature of this region.
Day 10: Te Anau-Queenstown
Leaving Te Anau, cycle and bus the back roads to Lake Mavora, where you'll explore its forests and the lakeshore. Reaching the western shore of Lake Wakatipu, the last bike ride leads to Walter Peak Station. Following afternoon tea, take the vintage steamship the Earnslaw on an entertaining journey across the lake to Queenstown, and transfer to your accommodation for the night.
Day 11: depart Queenstown
Depart Queenstown and continue your further travel arrangements.
