Great West Coaster

Outline Itinerary [2/2]
Day 7: Franz Josef-Fox Glacier
The distance to Fox Glacier is comparatively short, but nevertheless is fairly strenuous. However, the climbs followed by exciting and exhilarating downhill stretches make the effort worthwhile. Take an evening tour to nearby Lake Matheson for some stunning sunset views across the mirror lake.
Day 8: Fox Glacier
A day to explore the area around Fox, or to simply relax and re-charge. Take an optional glacier walk or heli-hike.
Day 9: Fox Glacier-Haast
Set off on the delightful flat roads along the coast, before heading inland, skirting the beautiful Lake Moreaki and Knights Point. Finally arrive at the Haast township for an overnight stay.
Day 10: Haast-Makaroa
Head off across the Haast Pass in a series of climbs and flats to the summit of the pass, before descending the 15km down to the small township of Makaroa. This is one of the more challenging days, but also one of the most rewarding.
Day 11: Makaroa-Wanaka
Cycle to the stunning lakeside town of Wanaka, following the road as it gently rolls down into the headwaters of the Otago valley, then climbs along the lakeshore to the Wanaka.
Day 12: Wanaka-Queenstown
Depart Wanaka and ride the relatively flat 25km to the historic township of Cardronna. Continue over the Crown Range before descending into Arrowtown and onwards to nearby Queenstown for overnight.
Day 13: Queenstown
Depart Queenstown and continue your further travel arrangements.
