Outline Itinerary [1/2] >>
Day 1: Arrive Nelson
Arrive in Nelson and transfer to your accommodation for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Abel Tasman Coastal Track
Early morning departure from Nelson and travel by coach to Motueka for the trip briefing. You will be given your day rucksack and packed lunch. Continuing to Kaiteriteri, board the boat and cruise along the coast to Totaranui, for the start of the day’s walk. Walk north to Anapai Bay before heading for the Homestead Lodge at Awaroa.
Day 3: Abel Tasman Coastal Track
Leaving Awaroa, walk inland over the Tonga Bay Saddle to Onetahuti. If the tide is right, it is possible to walk to the granite arches before continuing to Bark Bay, stopping for lunch. It’s a great place for a swim or you can soak up the sun on the glorious sandy beach. Continue on through luxuriant native forest to Falls River, from where the trail climbs to give superb coastal views of the headlands, estuaries and beaches. Descend to Torrent Bay to stay in the Torrent Bay Lodge.
Day 4: Abel Tasman Coastal Track
Today’s well graded walk weaves around the coast and its many sheltered coves, which were explored by Frenchman Dumont D’Urville in 1827. Many of the area’s place names date from this expedition. Arriving in Marahau, the coach will be waiting to return you to Motueka and Nelson (arriving at 17.30). Overnight in Nelson.
Day 5: Nelson-Kaikoura (296 km)
Today please collect your rental vehicle and drive to Kaikoura, renowned as the Whale Watching capital of New Zealand. Spend 2-nights in Kaikoura.
Day 6: Kaikoura
Enjoy a whale watch excursion by boat.
Day 7: Kaikoura-Christchurch-Queenstown (by road & air)
Drive to Christchurch and take a domestic flight to Queenstown. Arrive in Queenstown and transfer to your accommodation. 3-nights in Queenstown
Day 8: Queenstown
Spend the day at leisure.
Day 9: Queenstown
Spend the day at leisure. Later this afternoon/evening a Gondola ride to Bob’s Peak, 2 Luge Rides and a Buffet Dinner at the Skyline Restaurant is included.
