Collect your car and drive to Rotorua through the rolling hills of Waikato. Possible detour to the fabulous glowworm caves at Waitomo. Two nights in Rotorua. |

Rotorua
A full day of sightseeing is included today, to enable you to experience Rotorua’s wildlife and geothermal attractions. This evening enjoy a traditional Maori feast, ‘hangi’, and concert. |

Rotorua-Napier (225 km)
Drive via Lake Taupo through the thermal heart of the North Island to Napier for a two-night stay. Known for its art deco architecture, this pretty coastal town is located in a prime wine producing area. |

At leisure to visit the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers or one of the renowned wineries in the area |

Travel through sheep farming country to Wellington, New Zealand’s lively capital, for an overnight stay. |

Return your rental vehicle at the ferry terminal depot and take the InterIslander ferry across the scenic Cook Strait to Picton, where you collect another rental car. Drive to Blenheim in the Marlborough wine-producing district for an overnight stay. |

Blenheim-Kaikoura-Christchurch (251 km)
Follow the dramatic coastline to Kaikoura, where you can take an optional whale watching trip by boat or by air. Continue to Christchurch for an overnight stay. |
