We also offer a number of tours, which provide opportunities to experience local life and clients are encouraged to take part in a host of excursions that will encourage their interest.
The tour directly supports three conservation projects that are working hard to secure a sustainable future for the people and wildlife of the region.
With suppliers and agents we:
- Work with local groups and experts in setting up tours
- Wherever possible, employ local guides (in addition to our own)
- We use other local suppliers whenever possible
- Try to use locally run accommodation and we also offer a wide variety of home stays in many different countries. This benefits the local community as it allows our clients to have contact with indigenous people and gain an authentic insight into the country
- Do our best to ensure that our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people so we ensure that our type and scale of tourism is appropriate to local conditions and operate within the limits set by local appropriate infrastructure and carrying capacity
- Ensure our suppliers adhere to the same high standards as we do and that their policies match our own
- Swimming with dolphins – DTW believe the best way to see dolphins are in their natural habitat or not at all. We only offer excursions where wild dolphins can be seen in their natural environment and we do not force them to entertain
- Whale watching – DTW pioneered the first ever whale-watching holidays in Iceland. To this day, we still utilise the skills and knowledge of local fishing crews and have actively assisted and encouraged the development of this industry through workshops, in articles, books and videos
