Day 8: Rotorua-Wellington
Visit the geothermal power station at the Wairakei Steam Valley and Huka Falls enroute to Lake Taupo. Travel south through the world famous Tongariro National Park. Upon arrival in Wellington, join a guided tour of Te Papa museum. Overnight at the Mercure Hotel Wellington.
Day 9: Wellington-Picton-Christchurch
Join the ferry and cruise through Marlborough and Queen Charlotte Sounds to Picton on the South Island. Rejoin your coach and travel down the scenic east coast stopping at the Kaikoura seal colony before reaching Christchurch for an overnight at the Grand Chancellor Hotel.
Day 10: Christchurch-West Coast Glaciers
Board the TranzAlpine train for a journey to Arthur’s Pass. Visit a Greenstone (Jade) Factory at Hokitika, then continue south to Franz Josef Glacier. Opportunity for a scenic helicopter flight (own expense and weather permitting). Overnight at the Scenic Circle Fox Glacier Country Hotel.
Day 11: West Coast Glaciers-Queenstown
Continue down the West Coast to the Southern Lakes region visiting popular Arrowtown. Next 2 nights at the Mercure Resort Queenstown. The hotel overlooks Lake Wakatipu and the ‘Remarkables’ mountains.
Day 12: Queenstown
Today is free to relax or to explore at your own pace this picturesque alpine resort. In the later afternoon cruise scenic Lake Wakatipu on the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw. Enjoy a dinner and watch sheep and farm dog demonstrations at Walter Peak High Country Station.
Day 13: Queenstown-Milford Sound-Te Anau
Journey to the Fiordland National Park. Cruise Milford Sound and be enthralled by views of the towering Mitre Peak and the beautiful Bowen Falls. Return to the quaint forested lakeside town of Te Anau for a night at Luxmore Hotel.
Day 14: Te Anau-Dunedin
Leave Fiordland and journey to Dunedin. Be captivated by the grandeur of a bygone era in a guided tour of historic Olveston House. Overnight at the Kingsgate Hotel Dunedin. (Homestay Option available - must be prebooked).
