Outline Itinerary [1/2] >>
Day 1: arrive Christchurch
Arrive in Christchurch where you will be met and transferred to the Grand Chancellor Hotel for an overnight stay. Rest of day at leisure.
Day 2: Christchurch-West Coast Glaciers
Board the TranzAlpine train for a journey to Arthur’s Pass. Visit a Greenstone (Jade) Factory at Hokitika, then continue south to Franz Josef Glacier. Opportunity for a scenic helicopter flight (own expense and weather permitting). Overnight at the Scenic Circle Fox Glacier Country Hotel.
Day 3: West Coast Glaciers-Queenstown
Travel through sub-tropical rainforest to Haast Pass. Visit popular Arrowtown, a quaint township. Next 2 nights at the Mercure Resort Queenstown. The hotel overlooks Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables’ mountains.
Day 4: Queenstown
At leisure to relax or to explore at your own pace this picturesque alpine resort. Your Tour Director will assist with suggestions (optional activities at own expense). Take a late afternoon cruise on scenic Lake Wakatipu aboard the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw. Enjoy dinner then a sheep and farm dog demonstrations at Walter Peak High Country Station.
Day 5: Queenstown-Milford Sound-Te Anau
Journey to Fiordland National Park. Drive through the Hollyford Valley and Homer Tunnel to see Mirror Lakes. Cruise Milford Sound and be enthralled by views of towering Mitre Peak and Bowen Falls. Overnight accommodation at the Luxmore Hotel.
Day 6: Te Anau-Dunedin
Leave Fiordland and journey via rural communities to Dunedin. Be captivated by the grandeur of a bygone era in a guided tour of historic Olveston House. Overnight at the Kingsgate Hotel Dunedin. Homestay Option available. (Opportunity to experience traditional hospitality and delicious home- cooked meals in the Dunedin region at no extra cost - must be prebooked).
Day 7: Dunedin-Omarama
Take an informative tour of the city. Join a tour of magnificent Larnach Castle before travelling to the intriguing Moeraki Boulders. Follow the Waitaki River to Omarama. Overnight at the Heritage Gateway Hotel.
