Bike and Drive

Outline Itinerary [2/2]
Day 12: Punakaiki
A chance to explore the west coast perhaps heading to Paparoa National Park where numerous hiking tracks let you get close to nature.
Day 13: Punakaiki-Franz Josef (225 km)
Follow the coast road to Franz Josef, where a majestic glacier reaches down from 2500 m into the prolific rainforest. Bike from your hotel to the base of the glacier and then explore on foot.
Day 14: Franz Josef-Wanaka (287 km)
There are many opportunities to stop and explore on the drive to the lakeside town of Wanaka, via ancient Kahikatea trees and through the Haast Pass.
Day 15: Wanaka
Explore the region, possibly cycling along Fisherman’s Track following the shoreline of the lake or visit the unique fighter plane museum. You may even choose to play a round of golf on the beautifully situated course.
Day 16: Wanaka-Queenstown (117 km)
Drive to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital where there are many possibilities to get the adrenalin pumping with a range of activities from bungy jumping to jet boating.
Day 17: Queenstown
Spend the day at leisure, perhaps cycling to the quaint settlement of Arrowtown. Alternatively you could head to spectacular Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park.
Day 18: Queenstown-Omarama (170 km)
Head north driving through Central Otago providing a stark contrast to the green and lush landscape of the West Coast and Fiordland en route to Omarama. Located at the end of the Waitake Valley this area is renowned for its favourable thermals ideal for gliding.
Day 19: Omarama-Tekapo (190km)
Take a morning bike ride to the bizarre Omarama Clay Cliffs, which will enchant you with their extraordinary shapes before driving to Lake Tekapo past the turquoise coloured Lake Pukaki. Weather permitting, enjoy views of Mount Cook, the largest mountain in the southern hemisphere.
Day 20: Tekapo-Mt Hutt (170 km)
If the weather conditions are favourable take a flight-seeing trip over the Southern Alps, before driving through the Canterbury Plains to your farmstay accommodation.
Day 21: Mt Hutt-Christchurch (120 km)
Head to Christchurch, the ‘garden city’, where you can take a bike ride through Hagley Park and along the Avon River.
Day 22: depart Christchurch
Return your rental vehicle and depart.

Note:

Should you wish to spend additional nights at any particular location, we would be pleased to arrange this for you.

Some roads on this itinerary are subject to weather conditions and your itinerary may change as a result.
