The Milford Track

Traversing the heart of New Zealand’s wild fiord country, the Milford Track has long been described as ‘the finest walk in the world’. Since Quintin McKinnon pioneered the route in 1888, walkers of different ages, experience and expectation have taken up its challenges and enjoyed the outstanding scenery.
The region cut through by this famous trail forms part of Fiordland National Park, a landscape typified by deep lakes, silent fiords, luxuriant forests and sheer mountain faces of imposing granite. On a sunny day, you could find yourself using up your entire supply of film, but it is in rain, when water drips from every leaf and torrents cascade down the mountainsides, that the Milford Track is at its most magical.

Practicalities
The five day trip includes transportation to the start and from the end of the trail, from either Queenstown or Te Anau, which are both easily accessed from other parts of New Zealand, by coach and air.

Breakfast, a packed lunch, afternoon tea and a three course evening meal are provided each day during the trek. Wine is available for purchase. You must attend a trek briefing – in Queenstown this is held on the evening before departure, while in Te Anau it takes place in the morning of day 1 of the trip.
