West Coast Wilderness

The trip is aimed at fit walkers and includes some days of backpacking, but you don’t need to have had previous wilderness experience. And while this trip is very much participatory in nature, a fully qualified guide is with you every step of the way. Sticking loosely to the Tuatepere Hump Ridge track, the tour winds its way through remarkable landscapes all the while benefiting from the track’s imposed 5,000 hikers a year limit.

The itinerary offers a great balance of experiences; the peaks and limestones of Kahurangi, the luxuriant rainforests of Paparoa, the stunning Fox Glacier, stunning surf-pounded coastline and hot springs of the Copland Valley combine to form a memorable once-in-a-lifetime trip. Just remember to bring your camera!

Practicalities
Food is bought on a kitty system, to which everyone contributes about NZ$20 a day, which also covers any camping fees. Naturally, everyone helps out with preparing the meals and other daily tasks. This is very much a participatory trip, though of course your guide is always at hand to supervise.
