Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track

Outline Itinerary
Day 1: arrive at Tuatapere
You will be transferred from either Te Anau, Invercargill or Queenstown to meet at the Tuatapere Track office for pre-trek briefing. Overnight in hotel in Tuatapere.
Day 2: Tuatapere-Bluecliffs Beach-Okaka Hut
(18km/11.25 miles – 7-9 hours walk)

You will be transferred from Tuatapere to the trailhead at the Bluecliffs Beach car park to begin the walk. During the walk through podocarp and beech forest trail, you’ll reach some wonderful viewpoints and with luck will see dolphins in the bay below. This walk involves lots of climbing, finally arriving at Okaka Hut for overnight.
Day 3:

Okaka Hut-Port Craig Village
(18km/11.25 miles – 7-9 hours walk)

Following an early start to see the sunrise, another long, but rewarding walk brings alpine vistas, spectacular viaducts and coastal panoramas on the way to Port Craig Village for overnight stay.

Day 4: Port Craig Village-Bluecliffs Beach
(17km/10.6 miles – 5-6 hours walk)

Discover the pioneering history of the area and walk through towering rimu trees, the most easily recognisable of the podocarps in height and girth and by its draping leaves. Follow coastal paths across rocky pools and sandy beaches. Hopefully spot Hectors dolphins and several birds along the way, returning to Bluecliffs Beach car park. Transfer back to Tuatapere.
