The Queen Charlotte Track

Outline Itinerary
Day 1:

Picton-Furneaux Lodge (5 hours walk)
From Picton the boat takes us through the sound to Motuara Island, with opportunities to spot dolphins along the way. This sanctuary is predator-free and native birds like the robin and saddleback can be seen in their natural surroundings. Back on the boat, we make our way to Ship Cove, where we start the walk. We climb to a ridge for some great views before the descent to Endeavour Inlet. Overnight at Furneaux Lodge in chalets.

Day 2: Furneaux Lodge-Punga Cove (4 hours walk)
After a leisurely breakfast, walk up to the waterfall, which is surrounded by luxuriant forest. Then we join the main track as it winds around Endeavour Inlet through forests that are alive with birdsong. We stay overnight at Punga Cove Resort, with the luxury of private facilities in the chalets.
Day 3:

Punga Cove-Portage Hotel (8 hours walk)
Leaving Punga Cove, we climb to the ridge, which divides Queen Charlotte and Keneperu Sounds. Spectacular views dominate the day as we then make our way along the undulating ridge, the most challenging section of the trek – for those who prefer, you can opt for a water taxi today instead. We stay overnight at Portage Hotel, where you can relax in a spa bath.

Day 4: Portage Hotel-Anakiwa (6-7 hours walk)
Climb to the ridgeline track for yet more wonderful views. After Mistletoe Bay, the track contours along the hill to drop down into Davies Bay. The last 30 minutes of the walk are through mature beech forest to the end of the trek at Anakiwa, where transport will be waiting to take us back to Picton.
