Geography
New Zealand comprises two main islands, the North Island and the South Island, together with many smaller offshore islands, of which Stewart Island is the largest. In area it is slightly larger than the United Kingdom, whilst the population is a mere 3.5 million. Maoris and part Maoris comprise 8%, while a similar number of inhabitants are Pacific Islanders. New Zealand’s nearest neighbour is Australia, 2250km away. The country is a major exporter of dairy produce and wool and also produces excellent wines and fruits, including kiwi fruit.
