The lodge is set on 420 acres bordering Clutha river, with walks and running trails. Guests can kayak, jetboat, fish or raft on the river, a short walk from the lodge verandas. The lodge has recently been designed using recycled hardwood timber. Richly polished jarrah floors extend throughout both lounges, the ceilings are supported by historic wharf beams and massive railway beams feature in both the lounge fireplaces. Handcrafted furniture and original metal balustrades and light fittings make this a special and individual environment. There are 5 en-suite rooms; 3 rooms with super king bed/twin bed and 2 rooms with queen bed. |

Just 7 kms drive from Wanaka, Whare Kea Lodge was built amongst the mountains of New Zealand's spectacular Southern Alps and on the shore of glacial Lake Wanaka. The lodge accommodates a maximum of twelve guests in six suites, each with king size bed and large bathroom with both double bath and shower. Overnight hikes and longer excursions can be arranged with local guides, along with a heli-hike with a gourmet lunch. Spring and autumn are best for trout and salmon fishing in the surrounding lakes and rivers. During the winter months from July to October, Whare Kea provides the ideal base for heliskiing in the Harris and Buchanan mountain ranges. The Lodge also owns an Alpine Chalet in the mountains (accessed only by helicopter) that can be used in the summer as an alternate night of accommodation. To ensure easy access to these activities Whare Kea operates its own six-passenger Squirrel helicopter, with pick up and drop off from the front lawn.
