| Mt. Tarawera, just east of Rotorua, erupted in 1886 with catastrophic results. On this tour by comfortable 4 wheel drive vehicle we climb to the summit of the volcano for a view over the eruption site. Optional guided walk in the area or for the adventurous, a scramble down one of the craters. |

| This comprehensive full day trip takes in Maori sites, craters and lakes of the scenic Waimangu Valley near Rotorua. We start with a boat trip on Lake Rotomahana, the largest crater of the 1886 Tarawera volcano, then walk through native bush to the historic site of Te Ariki and the prehistoric rock paintings on Lake Tarawera. Next we visit Te Wairoa a village buried during the eruption and the idyllic Blue and Green Lakes. We end the day with a swim in a thermal pool, the Polynesian Spa. |
