Meet with your guide and take the water taxi from Golden Bay Wharf for a short 10 minute ride across Paterson Inlet to Ulva Island, a predator-free reserve. This picturesque, forested island has easy walks and beautiful beaches. Enjoy a 4 hour guided walk, and excellent commentary on the primeval rainforest, rare and threatened birds and plants and Maori and European cultural history. You may hear kaka (native parrot) calling their liquid honey notes, interspersed with the bellbird's exquisite notes and the wonderfully varied calls of the tui. Watch lime-green parakeets flying amongst the treetops. A number of orchid species are a delight to see, especially during the summer months. Tour includes water taxi and Department of Conservation fee. Only a reasonable level of fitness is required with 3 - 5 kms (1.8 3 miles) covered. No hotel pick up/drop off included but can be arranged at an extra cost.

Enjoy a water taxi ride from Golden Bay to the stunning Ulva Island where you can experience a gentle walk in a unique predator-free environment that is a paradise for bird life. The guide, Ulva Goodwille is a direct descendant of the fi rst peoples of Rakiura/Stewart Island, you can listen fi rst hand to authentic early Maori tribal and Island history with indigenous fl ora and fauna interpretation. Group numbers are limited to
ensure a personal and interactive experience. A full day option is also available on request. Golden Bay wharf is a 12 minute walk from most accommodation, transport can be arranged if requested.
